Smartphone hacks to make your vacation smooth-sailing

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Smartphones are becoming an integral part of vacations, and not just for capturing photos of your favorite moments.

Smartphones can now play a role in every step of your vacation, from booking and tracking flights to opening your hotel room door.

One iPhone trick helps you track your flights easily. All you have to do is text the airline and flight number to someone, even yourself, click the link and you can see the preview and status for that flight.

Your phone is also the best place to find up-to-date information on flight delays and cancellations. Many times those changes will be updated for passengers checking an app before the departure and arrival screens in the airport.

If you have a Tile device, attach it to your luggage and your phone can track the bag if it gets lost.

Once you get to your destination, you can use your iPhone to make your check-in process more efficient if you're staying at a Marriott or partner hotel. Bypass the front desk and check into the hotel with Mobile Hotel Check-In, get your room number, then use the Keyless Room Entry feature to use your phone to open your hotel room door.
