Shreveport officer killed, Raleigh officer wounded in shootings Wednesday night

SHREVEPORT, La. (WTHR) - A police officer in Louisiana has died after she was shot in the neck she was getting ready to start her shift. Meanwhile, a North Carolina officer is in surgery for injuries suffered in a shooting in Raleigh.

According to KTAL-TV in Shreveport, the female officer was heading to work around 8:20 p.m. local time Wednesday when she was shot four times. One of the bullets struck the officer in the head.

Sources tell KTAL the officer died from her injuries a short time later.

Police have at least one person detained for questioning in the shooting.

The shooting came about an hour after a police officer in Raleigh, N.C. was shot in the neck while trying to apprehend a carjacking suspect, WRAL-TV reports.

The officer was shot multiple times almost immediately after exiting their vehicle, including one shot to the neck.

Another officer drove the wounded officer toward the hospital, then was met by an ambulance that took the victim the rest of the way to the hospital, where he went into surgery.

The officer's condition has not yet been released.

Raleigh Police issued a statement on Twitter, saying the department was "praying for the best outcome."

Police say two suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the officer's shooting.

The shootings came at the end of the annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day across the United States.
