HARTFORD CITY, Ind. (WTHR) - Police have arrested a man they say supplied a gun that ended up at Blackford High School.

19-year-old William Shelton III admitted to police he stole the gun and gave it to a student.

A classmate alerted administrators about the gun. The school called police and the gun was found just 6 minutes after it was first reported on Tuesday.

The school building was put on lockdown for 90 minutes.

The student is charged with possession of a firearm on school grounds.

Blackford County Sheriff Jeff Sones praised the actions of the school and law enforcement.

"I would like to praise the response and actions taken by the sheriff's office, Hartford City Police Department, Indiana State Police, Blackford High School administrators, staff and students. Without proper procedures in place and training by all, this incident may not have ended so quickly or with the outcome it did. Also, the student who made the initial report should know those actions are commended," Sones said.
