INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — The weather is beginning to turn for spring, which means it's time to head down to the fishing hole.

Indiana's first Free Fishing Day of 2019 is this weekend, and Indiana residents will be able to fish on public waters without a fishing license or a salmon/trout stamp.

While children 17 and younger never need a license to fish in Indiana's public waters, adults usually do. Saturday, April 20 is the first of four days where everyone has totally free access to the waters.

Here are the other dates for free fishing in Indiana waters this year:

  • May 18
  • June 1
  • June 2

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources will also host a variety of other events across the state to coincide with Free Fishing Day Saturday. Too see a list of events happening at state parks every day, click here.
