MOBILE, Ala. (WTHR) - Technology helped a high school senior "walk" at graduation, even though she was laid up in the hospital.

Cynthia Pettway was in the hospital and unable to graduate with the rest of her class at LeFlore High School in Mobile, Alabama Monday. But thanks to the work of the school district and the hospital, a robot took Cynthia's place and walked across the stage at commencement.

The robot, which was wearing a cap and gown, projected video of Pettway on a tablet for its head. She was watching the ceremony in front of a laptop in the hospital with about 40 family and friends.

The crowd cheered when Cynthia's name was announced.

"It was perfect," Cynthia's mother Rachael Johnson said. "We loved it."

Photos of Cynthia and the graduation posted by the school district to Facebook have been shared hundreds of times and include a long list of congratulations to the new grad.
