Record-breaking heat kicks off the work week

Here we go! We are headed into record-breaking heat as we leave the month of September and head into October.

In fact, highs will be near or over 90 today, tomorrow and Wednesday. The pattern comes courtesy of a huge ridge of high pressure that is literally dominating 30 states the next few days. Many states, including Indiana, will have highs from 15 to 20 degrees above average.

Be careful, hydrate and take it easy if you are outside for a longer period of time. As soon as the heat builds, we will look to the west, where there will be snow in the Idaho mountains, and that cooler air slowly makes its way to Indiana.

Believe it or not, we will see highs only in the 60s for Friday and into the weekend.

Remember to download the WTHR weather app, and watch our weathercasts on WTHR Channel 13 because it's going to be a bizarre week for weather in Indiana.

How about the leaves? Look for a slow change in color the next week. Fort Wayne will start to see a color break out by next weekend. Here in the Indy area, we are still about 3 and a half weeks away.
