Rainy, Raw Evening Ahead

Thus far the forecast of a rainy day is playing out across Central Indiana with some locations in excess of a half-inch of rainfall already. Today will go down as our wettest day since late August with additional rain, and possibly some thunderstorms, between now and midnight.

The bigger weather story ultimately is the well-advertised arrival of much colder air late afternoon into evening. At time of posting a sharp cold front was near the Illinois-Indiana border... with temperatures east of the front in the upper 60s and behind the front 40s/50s.

This boundary will be crossing the Indy metro area between 4-5 PM with a rapid drop in temperatures of some 20° in the matter of a few hours. The combination of showers, temperatures in the 40s, a gusty northwest wind, and wind chills in the 30s lead to a raw evening for Operation Football, Luke Bryan, and/or heading into the Pacers game.

Definitely dress for cold, wet conditions and it will be a good idea to have layers and clothing that's waterproof. Showers end west-to-east around midnight with a clearing sky overnight.

Temperatures continue to drop into the lower and mid 30s heading into Saturday morning near/below freezing. A bright but windy weekend ahead that features colder than average highs Saturday in the mid-50s.

Wind gusts Saturday/Sunday afternoons may exceed 35 mph as a strong storm system spins to our north.

Sunday will be warmer in the mid-60s but again with strong gusts in the afternoon/early evening.
