President Southport visit will impact traffic Friday evening through Saturday morning


INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — President Donald Trump will be in Indianapolis Friday night to campaign for Mike Braun.

He will be speaking at Southport High School at 7 p.m.

Trump's visit is going to impact traffic starting during rush hour.

There will be temporary closures from the Indianapolis International Airport to the high school between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Then, police are going to shut down portions of Shelby Street and Banta Road on the south side.

The communications director for Beyond Monumental released this statement regarding road closures:

Due to the planned presidential visit to Indianapolis, participants can expect road closures and potential delays while traveling to the Monumental Health & Fitness Expo on Friday evening, and to the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon start line on Saturday morning.The streets surrounding the J.W. Marriott Indianapolis are expected to be closed beginning at 6:00 PM Friday and continuing until 10:45 AM Saturday. Those closures will include South West Street from Washington to Maryland streets; West Washington Street from West Street to Schumacher Way; and Maryland Street from Schumacher Way to West Street.
