JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) — The Johnson County Sheriff's Department wants you to be on the lookout for another telephone scam.

The scammer poses as a Duke Energy employee telling people they owe $500 and need to pay up immediately or else their power will be shut off.

The latest victim in this case was told to purchase a "MoneyPak" card from a local convenience store, and then call the scammer back with the code.

Police say even though the phone numbers may appear to be legitimate, remember, companies like Duke Energy will never ask you to go to a store to buy a money card to pay your bill.

If you get suspicious about a phone call similar to this one, it's encouraged to report it.
