NORTH VERNON - Police say Alan Joseph Marantos, 34, North Vernon, was arrested Thursday in connection with a Jennings County murder investigation.

According to our newsgathering partners at the Greensburg Daily News, the case began in late March when Brian K. Kirby, 52, North Vernon, was reported missing.

Kirby had last been seen at his Primshire Court home on March 27, 2020.

Police said an investigation determined that Marantos attacked Kirby at the home, then burned the body at another location. Marantos is then alleged to have discarded the remains at multiple locations around Jennings County

State police used DNA to identify the remains.

Marantos has been at the Jackson County Jail on unrelated charges since April 2, according to police. On Thursday, he received an arrest warrant that included charges of murder, robbery, aggravated battery, abuse of a corpse, obstruction of justice and intimidation.
