LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WTHR) - Lafayette police are investigating an officer-involved shooting near 23rd and State streets Monday afternoon.

Police say someone called 911 about a man with a gun at the intersection of Earl and State street around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they say they were unsuccessful in getting the man to drop his gun. Police confirm one officer fired his weapon striking the man and killing him.

"It's too early in the investigation to tell what was said and the efforts that were made. After the shooting there were lifesaving efforts made by the officers to revive the man," said Lafayette Police Sgt. Michael Brown.

No officers were injured.

Police say all officers are required to wear body cameras, but video of the shooting was not yet available.
