Police release cause of Bartholomew County crash involving school bus

BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR) — Indiana State Police is releasing details on what caused a chain-reaction crash involving a school bus.

The crash happened Tuesday at 2:40 p.m. on State Road 11.

An investigation found as traffic was slowing, Jack Cooper, 71, swerved into the path of oncoming traffic.

He hit a Jeep nearly head on and then hit another car.

The Jeep he hit then spun into the Seymour Community School Corporation bus. 33 students were on board and a 17-year-old girl had to be taken to the hospital for her injuries.

Cooper and the driver of the Jeep police say he hit, both were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
