WESTFIELD, Ind. (WTHR) - An 81-year-old man is dead after he was hit and killed by a truck in Carmel Thursday morning.

A few hours later a jogger in Westfield was hit while running on the Monon.

The first accident happened along City Center Drive near Guilford when 81-year-old Thomas McAllister was crossing the road.

"It is not a marked crosswalk and he was crossing east and a pickup truck was driving through the area," Lt James Semester from Carmel Police Department explained.

Lt Semester says speed was not an issue in the accident but the sunrise might have been.

"City Center Drive is an east-west road and the pickup was going east. Did the driver say he was also adjusting for the sun? And he was adjusting the visor before the crash," Lt Semester added.

The reconstruction team was out early to take a close look at the scene. The driver of the pickup that struck McAllister stayed on the scene and attempted to help the victim.

One hour later a separate incident involving a jogger who was attempting to cross 161st street when she was struck by a truck. She was transported to a local hospital. She was said to be alert and conscious at the accident scene.

Both drivers stayed to assist the victims in these accidents.

Neither driver was charged in these accidents.
