Police: Couple took 7-month-old to Indianapolis bar, got drunk

Shari Treba and Michael Trosclair

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - A couple is facing neglect charges for taking a seven-month-old girl to a downtown bar where they both got drunk.

Police say Shari Treba and Michael Trosclair were at the Wild Beaver Saloon around 12:30 a.m. Friday and had their infant daughter with them. A witness told officers Treba, 42, was drinking beer as the child sat in a stroller nearby.

Court documents also say a witness thought he saw Treba breastfeed the baby while she was drinking and smoking and was seen offering sex to people who would go inside and get her beer. At one point, the witness says Treba chained the stroller outside the bar and left her daughter unattended while she went inside for another drink.

An officer performed a breathalyzer test on Treba, which showed she had a blood-alcohol content of .193%

Police say Trosclair also appeared to be intoxicated and became "angry" and "belligerent" toward officers as he was taken into custody.

The child was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health to be checked out, but was not found to be intoxicated or abused. The girl's parents have been charged with neglect of a dependent and public intoxication.
