LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WTHR) – A teen faces preliminary charges of criminal recklessness and intimidation after shots were fired near the Tippecanoe Mall Friday night.

Police say a disturbance between at least two people in the mall parking lot ended with gunshots fired. It happened about 6 p.m. Friday.

Early Saturday morning, a police spokesperson said a male who had been detained in the case, 17, was being preliminarily charged with criminal recklessness and intimidation.

Police pointed out the incident is not being investigated as an "active shooter" case but rather what appears to be an isolated disturbance between individuals.

No one was injured as a direct result of the shooting, but police say a woman not involved in the incident was injured as she ran from the area. She apparently suffered a dislocated knee.

The spokesperson also said no one else was being sought in the case but that the investigation remains active.

If you have information about the incident, you're asked to contact the Lafayette Police Department at (765) 807-1200 or on the anonymous WeTIP Hotline at 800-78-CRIME.
