LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WTHR) — A police car has been parked on the front lawn of the Lafayette Indiana State Police Post to honor a fallen trooper.

State Trooper Peter Stephan was pronounced dead after a traffic crash in Tippecanoe County Friday night.

Stephan, 27, was a four-year veteran of ISP.

The car is to honor his memory. ISP is encouraging the pubic to visit the post on S.R. 43 just north of I-65 near Battleground to pay their respects.

"The public is invited to stop by and pay respects to our fallen brother in blue," ISP wrote on their Facebook page. "Thank you for all the support and prayers which have come from all around Indiana and from around the United States! They are appreciated more can be expressed in words."
