INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — IMPD detectives confirmed in a press release early Thursday morning that the search for 20-year-old Omar Lopez is over.

A warrant was previously out for his arrest, but police were able to track him down and he was taken into custody Wednesday night.

Lopez is accused of a hit-and-run on the city's south side that killed Annastaisha Sandlin while she was riding her bicycle earlier this week.

Investigators say Sandlin got a flat tire on her way home from work. She was just a fee blocks from home, walking the bike when she was hit from behind by an SUV.

A witness, another driver, not wanting the suspect to get away followed the suspect. When the man stopped and ran off, the witness chased after him, but he got away.

Lopez is charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

According to court records, Lopez is awaiting trial on other charges.

He was arrested in April and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, possession of a controlled substance, OWI with a controlled substance in his body and illegal consumption.

Lopez was released from jail and was scheduled to be in court next week.

Sandlin biked back and forth to work, 20 miles each day. Her employer closed Wednesday so everyone could attend the funeral.

The road side memorials include mementos and messages. One of them promises, “There will be justice.”
