DUBAI (WTHR) — A pilot grounded a flight over the weekend shortly after take-off when a passenger claimed she left her child in the boarding area.

A video of the pilot explaining the situation to confused air traffic controllers has gained attention on social media.

The conversation shows the pilot requesting permission to head back to the terminal while ATC operators scramble to figure out the protocol for the unusual incident, according to Gulf News.

“May God be with us. Can we come back or what?” the pilot can be heard asking in the video.

The operator recorded the flight number and asked a colleague about the protocol for this kind of situation.

“This flight is requesting to come back…a passenger forgot her baby in the waiting area, the poor thing,” the pilot said.

The operator asks the pilot to re-confirm the emergency.

“We told you, a passenger left her baby in the terminal and refuses to continue the flight,” the pilot told Gulf News.

The air traffic controller gave the pilot the OK to turn back before saying, “this is totally a new one for us!”

Flight SV832, from Jeddah to Kuala Lampur, returned to King Abdul Aziz International Airport, according to Gulf News.

The pilot was praised in the video comments. Commenters thanked him for his humanity and for recognizing the situation as an “emergency case.”
