Petition aims to reduce national debt by selling Montana to Canada


(KABB/WOAI) — A petition with thousands of signatures calls on the United States to sell the state of Montana to reduce the national debt.

A group calling itself "Christian moms against private education" started a petition on to sell Montana to Canada for $1 trillion. The U.S. national debt is currently $22 trillion.

"We have too much debt and Montana is useless. Just tell them it has beavers or something," the petition's page reads.

More than 8,000 people as of Tuesday afternoon have signed the petition. The goal is to get to 10,000 signatures.
