Peru student charged with threatening other students

PERU, Ind. (WTHR) — A student of Peru Junior High School has been taken into custody by the Peru Police Department.

Earlier today police responded to threats made via social media to harm students at Peru Jr. High on Monday once class resumed from Fall break, according to a post on the Peru Police Department's Facebook.

After investigating, police found that the student who made the threats had access to firearms. Those firearms have been obtained by police.

The police department says "there is no reason to believe that there is any current threat to any students at Peru Community Schools," but students should expect police presence around school on Monday.

The student is charged of intimidation and dangerous possession of a firearm.
