Pennsylvania man dies in early morning off-road crash in Putnam Co.


FILLMORE, Ind. (WTHR) – A Pennsylvania man died early Sunday morning in an off-road crash in Putnam County.

Indiana Conservation Officers were called to a crash involving a Polaris Razor near Heritage Lake shortly before 2:30 a.m.

Hayden Salapek, 20, of Warren, Pennsylvania was pronounced dead at the scene. Salapek was ejected from the driver’s seat of the ORV, according to a release from Indiana DNR.

Robert Drake, 27, of Fillmore, was restrained in the passenger seat at the time of the crash, and was driven by friends to Hendricks County Regional Hospital.

The crash happened near the intersection of Putnam County Road 500 North and County Road 705 East.

Neither man was wearing a helmet.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Terre Haute.

No foul play is suspected at this time, but alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor.
