Indianapolis - A political scuffle Saturday over a disagreement outside a polling site turned physical between two party officials.

As the November 2nd election draws closer, the push for votes heats up.

But at a Marion county early voting site Saturday the clash between political parties escalated from push to shove.

Ernie Shearer from Hoosiers for Honesty in Government told Eyewitness News, "It was absolutely ridiculous, overbearing, insulting."

The voting site at 10th and Post is where Ernie Shearer says he was attacked by the chairman of the Marion County Democratic Party.

"It was like a bull in a bullfight he charged, screaming at me all the way," said Shearer.

Shearer is the GOP ward chairman for Warren Township and says he was representing Hoosiers for Honesty in Government, a political action committee and not his party. When on a tip he stopped by the site to snap these pictures what he calls documentation of candidates campaigning too close to the polls.

It was when he took this photo of chairman Ed Treacy that the trouble began.

Eyewitness News reporter Kris Kirschner reports, "According to police reports the altercation began when Treacy left the building and noticed Shearer taking pictures across the parking lot."

According to the police report "Treacy continued walking straight ahead cursing and bumped him, hit him in the nose with a business card. Shearer pushed Treacy's hand away from his face and Treacy bumped him twice more. All three Bumps were chest to chest."

County Democrats contend Shearer was taking photos of voters as a means of intimidation.

Adam Kirsch, Marion County Democratic Party spokesman, said, "If there is someone intimidating voters, it's inappropriate and we'll do all we can to protect voters."

"It is a sad ploy by Ed Treacy who is desperate at this point in the election," said Tom John spokesperson for the Marion County Republican Party.

Analysts consider it political drama taken to a new level but likely no early indication of any election night outcome.
