INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - In a move designed to give "flexibility" to the team, the Indiana Pacers said Monday they won't pick up the option on Lance Stephenson’s contract for next season.

The Pacers released the following statement:

“This was a very difficult decision, but as free agency begins on July 1, we want to have flexibility so that we can prepare for all of our available options,” said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Kevin Pritchard.

WTHR.com's Bob Kravitz says despite the release, the guard could still be re-signed by the team.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.
