INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Welcome to the world of virtual basketball.

On this day, it was the Pacers' Gaming Team taking on Cleveland in a preseason matchup.

These guys get paid to play, earning more than $37,000 in salary for the six-month season, not to mention housing and healthcare benefits.

It's no longer "some crazy idea." 21 NBA franchises have gaming teams, including general managers and coaches.

And on average, more than 50,000 fans "tune-in" online to watch a virtual NBA game.

The players are drafted into the league. There's even trades between teams.

Meet some of the players and see Dave Calabro's full report by clicking on the media player above.
