(WTHR) — Aly Raisman went on the TODAY Show to talk further about the Larry Nassar sentencing and what needs to be done next.

During Thursday morning's interview, the Olympian emphasized that Nassar's sentencing is just the tip of the iceberg for a larger problem.

"We need to get to the bottom of how this happened. If we don't figure out how it did, we can't be confident that it won't happen again," she told TODAY.

Nassar, 54, was sentenced to 40 to 175 years in prison for molesting for sex crimes after hearing the testimonies of 150-plus victims.

"He deserves to suffer," the 23-year-old gold medalist told TODAY. "It's disgusting what happened."

Raisman said an independent investigation into USA Gymanstics, the U.S. Olympic Committee and Michigan State University is needed to determine who else was at fault during years of abuse.

Since the sentencing, MSU's president resigned. USOC has also called for the resignation of all Board of Directors for USA Gymnastics.
