Officers respond to hundreds of crashes on wet, slick roads

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Sunday was a busy day for first responders on roads and highways in central Indiana.

An afternoon snowstorm caused slick spots and led to hundreds of accidents and slide-offs.

Metro police responded to more than 200 property damage accidents with 20 injuries and more than 30 slide-offs.

Along central Indiana interstates, Indiana State Police worked 72 crashes with 8 injuries and 20 slide-offs.

Trropers responded to more than 270 accidents around the state, two of which involved fatalities.

By early Sunday evening, most of the roads had started to clear up after the storm faded.

Indianapolis DPW sent a crew of 80 trucks Sunday night to treat the roads for the morning commute.
