Officer-involved shooting in Crawfordsville sends suspect to hospital


CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WTHR) — Police have confirmed a police-involved shooting occurred in Crawfordsville Thursday night.

According to an Indiana State Police spokesman, the incident began after officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The suspect fled and led them on a short chase. The chase ended near State Road 32 and Banjo Road,where police say they issued commands which were not followed by the suspect. The suspect then reportedly brandished a weapon at the officers, prompting them to fire, striking the suspect at least once.

Police say the suspect was uncooperative with officers and brandished the gun, and one of the officers shot him in self-defense.

The person, whose name wasn't immediately released, was taken to a Crawfordsville hospital before being transferred to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment.

No other injuries were reported. The shooting is under investigation by state police.
