Woman realizes elderly dog she adopted was same dog she had as a child

When Nicole Grimes saw a post about an elderly dog that needed a good home, she couldn't help but feel like the dog has similarities to one she had as a young girl.

(WTHR) — Nicole Grimes was 10 years old when she got her puppy Chloe.

But when her father got a job working from home, the family decided Chloe's continued barking was causing too much disturbance. So they decided to give her away to the local animal shelter, TODAY reported.

Grimes was 14 at the time. Now, she's 21.

She says she thought a lot about Chloe over the years and recently decided she wanted to adopt a dog of her own. Grimes is married with a one year old.

A few weeks ago, a Facebook friend posted photos of an older dog whom she was hoping to find a home.

"It just reminded me of my old dog. So I decided to take her in," Grimes said.

Not only that, but the dog's name was also Chloe and was about the same age Grimes' puppy would have been.

Although the family had doubts that it was the same dog, a microchip scan confirmed that it was indeed Grimes' dog from all those years ago.

"I felt like I won the lottery," Grimes said. "I never thought I'd see her again."
