MONTPELIER, Vt. (WTHR) — A proposed bill in Vermont would let people have emojis on their license plates.

State Rep. Rebecca White introduced the bill, which allows drivers to add one of six available emojis to their plates when they register their vehicle in Vermont, WPTZ reported.

The symbols would be in addition to the registration numbers.

Lawmakers in Australia passed a similar bill in 2019 allowing emoticons to appear on state-registered plates. Drivers can choose from the laughing, smiling, wink, "love" or sunglasses emojis, WPTZ reported.

Those particular plates cost $336 each, but Vermont's bill doesn't specify an added cost nor which emojis it would offer if the proposal passes.
