CHICLAYO, Peru (WTHR) - Crickets have invaded a city in northern Peru to the point where locals say they can't sleep at night and schools were forced to close.
The bugs have taken over entire buildings, coating the floors and walls. Residents say the crickets' incessant croaking is keeping them up at night.
Classes were canceled as people worked to clean up one school.
Officials say the crickets don't spread disease, but there are so many of the insects that locals say every person in town is affected.
The locals are working with authorities to try to get the situation under control.
