Student punches teacher in Milwaukee classroom

One week into the school year, a Milwaukee student has been arrested for attacking his teacher in the middle of class.

MILWAUKEE, Wisc. (WTMJ) - One week into the school year, a Milwaukee student has been arrested for attacking his teacher in the middle of class.

A classmate captured video of the moment the attack began. The student first pushes the teacher at South Division High School, then as the instructor walks away, the student punches him in the face, knocks him down and continues punching him.

Police say the student was arrested at school, but the school district says they can't comment further on what happened, because it's a police matter.

Another student says the teacher is well-known and liked by the high school's students.

"He mostly just, like, if a kid has a question, he will help them out, if they are struggling or something," said Gustavo Miramontes.

"You don't swing at a teacher. You don't swing at an adult. You don't disrespect adults," said father Jerry Gerth.

Police say the case against the teenager should be presented to the district attorney soon for possible charges of battery to a school district official.
