After receiving backlash for the video, Sheriff Tim Ryals placed Wallace on administrative leave and said the incident would be investigated.
By Saturday, Wallace was "relieved of his duties." Ryals said he believed there were multiple opportunities to de-escalate the situation, and Wallace fell short of standards when he shot and injured the dog.
Ryals also said he would forward the video and findings from the investigation along to the county's prosecutor's office for further review.
The dog's owner spoke to KARK and said he was heartbroken about the situation.
"What did that poor dog do?" Dog Canady asked. Canady said his dog, Reeses, wouldn't harm anyone.
Reeses is now recovering from injuries wt the vet. Canady said she is improving, but still has a long road to full recovery.
