FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTHR) – A Kentucky OBGYN has quite the birthing story.
While preparing to give birth to a baby of her own, Dr. Amanda Hess found herself springing into action to help deliver another patient's baby.
"While she was getting into her patient gown to prepare for her induction and delivery she overheard the nurses preparing for a woman in active labor who needed to deliver immediately because the baby was in distress - that baby was coming and needed help!" Dr. Hala Sabry described in a Facebook post.
That patient, Leah Halliday-Johnson, was fully dilated, but the on-call doctor wasn’t back at the hospital from a break yet.
That's when Hess said there was no time to waste. She jumped up, grabbed another gown to cover her backside, put on some boots over her flip flops and ran to help deliver that baby.
Hess quickly realized the soon-to-be mother she was helping was a patient she had seen the week before at the woman’s prenatal appointment.
"She was just glad to be able to get to push and have the baby out and not have to wait any longer,” Hess told WKYT.
Now, the two moms are bonded for life.
Halliday-Johnson gave birth to a healthy baby girl and Hess' daughter was born a short time later.
