DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. (WTHR/WCNC) — A very talented five-year-old from North Carolina is getting a shoutout from the artist inspiring her.
Ciaunna was hoping to get her drawing of Garfield and Odie to "Garfield" himself before Christmas.
Jim Davis, the creator of Garfield, saw the story about Ciaunna on Eyewitness News.
He posted in response to the story on Facebook:
Great drawings, Ciaunna! I tune in to WTHR every morning to get Chuck's forecast and I heard about you. The more you draw, the better you get, and you're already drawing like someone three times your age! Keep it up, young lady. You have a precious gift... Jim Davis
According to her mother, Tameka Bond, Ciaunna has been drawing for about a year now. But her parents noticed her talent at a very young age.
"At 2 and 3 years old we noticed she would stay in the lines," Bond said.
Bond said her daughter's love for the Garfield cartoon stemmed from Netflix.
"She didn't know anything about Garfield," Bond said. "But she watched it on Netflix and now she has a love for them and has become obsessed."
So obsessed in fact, that Bond said when she posted Ciaunna's drawings onto her Facebook page, she asked, "do you think Garfield will see them?"
"I said, ok let's try. This is social media," Bond said.
Jim Davis did see it and Bond responded to his kind words about her daughter.
Jim Davis thank you sooooo much for responding!!! I’m in total awe right now and sooo excited!!! I cannot wait to read your comment to her when she gets out of school! I’m in tears right now! For her to know that you have seen her drawings will have a great impact on her! I know this for sure will be motivation!!!! Again, I truly thank you and will make sure I tell her this evening!!!
Eyewitness News has learned Davis will also be sending Ciaunna an autographed comic strip.
