LANSING, Mich (WTHR) — Michigan lawmakers are fighting to make it so there's no such thing as "boy" or "girl" toys when serving up kid's meals.
A House Resolution introduced Wednesday, Nov. 28 urges food establishments and franchises to stop gender classification of kid’s meal toys, KCENTV reported.
State Rep. Leslie Love, D-Detroit, is the primary sponsor. There are 14 co-sponsors.
“This is a significant issue as billions of these meals are sold every year and this practice can influence and limit children’s imaginations and interests by promoting some toys as only suitable for girls and others only for boys," the resolution states, according to KCENTV.
Lawmakers argue there are harmful effects with gender-classified toys.
They believe children should be offered the choice of a toy without someone asking if it's for a boy or a girl.
