Spartz will not seek reelection in 2024

Victoria Spartz announced Friday she will not run for reelection when her Fifth Indiana District seat comes up again in 2024.

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — Congresswoman Victoria Spartz (R - Indiana) announced Friday that she will not run for reelection when her seat to represent Indiana's Fifth Congressional District comes up for election again in 2024.

"It’s been my honor representing Hoosiers in the Indiana State Senate and U.S. Congress, and I appreciate the strong support on the ground," Spartz shared in announcing her decision.

"I won a lot of tough battles for the people and will work hard to win a few more in the next two years," Spartz said. "However, being a working mom is tough, and I need to spend more time with my two high school girls back home, so I will not run for any office in 2024."

Born in Ukraine, Spartz has often spoke out against the Russian invasion over the past year.

"This is not a war — this is genocide of the Ukrainian people by a crazy man who cannot get over the Ukrainian people do not want socialism, Soviet Union, communism," Spartz said in March 2022. "They want to be with the United States of America. They want to be free people. They want to be with the West, and he cannot get over that."

Spartz defeated Democrat Christina Hale and Libertarian Ken Tucker in the 2020 November election, then won reelection in 2022 against Democrat Jeanine Lake.

She moved to the United States in 2000 after meeting her husband, Jason, an Indiana native, while he was traveling in Europe.

Holding two degrees from the National University of Economics when she moved to America, Spartz added a masters degree in accounting from the IU Kelley School of Business in Indianapolis.

Before her work on Capitol Hill, Spartz served as CFO in the Indiana Attorney General's Office and in the Indiana State Senate.
