WASHINGTON (WTHR) — Sen. Mitt Romney proposed giving every American adult $1,000 to help with the financial strain caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.

According to CNBC, National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow said the White House might consider a direct cash option to help people.

“While expansions of paid leave, unemployment insurance, and SNAP benefits are crucial, the check will help fill the gaps for Americans that may not quickly navigate different government options,” Romney said in a statement.

Romney also proposed giving grants to small businesses that have lost more than 50 percent of their revenue.

He also discussed student loan deferment for recent graduates.
