INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - Democrat John Gregg's lead over Republican Eric Holcomb has dwindled to a two point margin according to a new statewide poll.
The WTHR/HPI Indiana Poll has Gregg with a 41% to 39% lead over Lieutenant Governor Holcomb, down from a five-point lead in the September poll.
The earlier poll had Gregg up 40% to 35%.
Libertarian Rex Bell had 5% and 15% of voters were undecided.
In comparison to last month's poll, Holcomb gained five-points with GOP voters and saw slight gains from both men and women. Gregg lost nine-points of support from minority voters.
Holcomb and Gregg had similar gains with both favorability and name recognition from the previous WTHR/HPI Indiana Poll. Holcomb gained five net favorability points and 11-points of name recognition while Gregg's net favorability improved by two-points and his name recognition score improved by 13.
Gregg gained 11-points with 35-44 year olds and 29-points with 5-64 year olds. Holcomb gained six net favorability points with white voters, 11-points with independents and seven-points with women.
WTHR commissioned the poll with Howey Politics Indiana. The Public Opinion Strategies poll surveyed 600 likely voters in the state from October 3-5. It has a four-point margin of error.
