US soldiers celebrate Christmas in Afghanistan

This year marks the 16th Christmas overall for American troops in Afghanistan.

BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan (NBC News) – American soldiers in Afghanistan lit candles and sang Christmas hymns Sunday as they celebrated Christmas Eve away from home at Bagram Air Base.

This year marks the 16th Christmas overall for American troops in Afghanistan.

Bagram Air Base is one of the main US military bases in Afghanistan, where US soldiers are based.

The festive season can be difficult for the soldiers spending time away from their families.

"USO just got me dressed up as a snowman right now, a lot of people came out, it's great, I just want to wish a Merry Christmas to my mum, dad, brother and my two bulldogs,” said one soldier.
