HAWAII (NBC News) – A group of volunteers are descending upon the Big Island of Hawaii in search of a missing hiker.
Kyle Brittain, 27, hasn’t been seen since he set off alone on a hike nine days ago.
"Knowing he's out there is killing me," Steve Brittain, Kyle's father said. "I was up at 3:30 this morning praying we can find him today."
Steve says Kyle has been hiking since he was 3 years old and decided to hike alone this time.
Kyle's car was found, but no sign of him.
Kyle was called a hero five years ago when he rescued his mom from a fire.
