New Jersey woman drives into river after mistaking gas pedal for brake

Two New Jersey women thankfully escaped serious injury after one accidentally driving into a river.

BERGEN COUNTY, N.J. (WTHR) — Two New Jersey women thankfully escaped serious injury after one accidentally drove into a river.

Police say they were exiting a car wash when the driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake. Her Mercedes SUV went straight into the water.

A man standing nearby jumped in and help both women to safety.

The driver went to a hospital to treat minor injuries, and the passenger was not hurt.
