IOWA COUNTY, Wis. (NBC News/WMTV) – A family who'd given up hope finding their lost dog is reunited once again – and their reunion has a twist.
As soon as Diesel disappeared three months ago, his owner checked with the humane society but they didn't have him.
Fast forward awhile and just when the family thought he was gone for good, a friend spotted Diesel on the humane society's website.
And get this -- when the humane society got him, they gave him the name Diesel.
"His name was Diesel before he came here, and we gave him the name diesel," said Sharon Shea.
"I called the humane society, and at the time they said they didn't have him," said Diesel's owner, Emily Swiggum. 'I found out - my best friend came to the garage sale and told me that she saw him, and I was here, in like . . . right away."
"This is just one of those things that you say, 'this almost never happens,'" said Shea.
Diesel's now back with his family and they say he's getting plenty of belly rubs and doggie treats.
