LAKE MARY, Fla. (WESH) - Talk about close encounters!
A Florida woman was playing games on her phone while she was standing in her garage. When she looked up, she was eye-to-eye with a bear!
Teliece Sander says the animal was so close, she could feel its breath.
"Frightening," she said. "I could move it a little bit, still breathe a little bit, wasn't breathing a whole lot."
Sander sent a photo of the bear to her son, with a message - "Help me."
Colton Sander thought his mom was playing a joke.
"I thought she got a new app or something," he said.
When she followed up with a message saying, "Don't make a lot of noise," he knew it was real.
"I was in shock. Couldn't believe it," Colton Sander said.
Once her 6'6", 325-pound son walked up behind her, the 300-pound bear sauntered away. Only then did Teliece move a muscle.
"I felt like, if I did some kind of knee jerk, that that might scare him and I didn't know what his reaction would be," Teliece said.
Officers with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission brought a trap in, hoping to catch the bear and move it out of the area, for safety's sake.
