Florida dog puts car in reverse, drives in circles for an hour

A dog in Florida went around and around and around a cul-de-sac in a car for about an hour before police could get him out.

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (WTHR) — Is there anything better than a joyride on a nice day? A Florida dog found out after he got stuck inside a car that spun in circles for nearly an hour.

WPTV reports neighbors saw the whole thing happen, and it appeared the dog didn't mind the ride.

"I figured 'How the heck did they manage to do that?'" neighbor Anna Sabol said.

Sabol said she first saw a police car outside her window, then the scene continued to grow. They were there because there was a car spinning in reverse in a cul-de-sac with a single occupant inside: a black lab.

Police said the dog's owner briefly got out of the car, then the dog somehow put it in reverse. They were thankfully able to eventually stop the car using a a keypad code on the door, but not before the car hit a mailbox, a trash can and moved bricks in front of a home.

"He was doing pretty good until he hit the mailbox," Sabol said. "He went around for about an hour without hitting anything at all."

No one — including the dog — was injured during the ride. In fact, Sabol said it looked like the dog really enjoyed his time.

"I saw the dog jump out of the car, wagging his tail. I was like, 'OK, good driving!'" Sabol said.
