Popular Twitch streamer and successful World of Warcraft player Byron “Reckful” Bernstein died Thursday. He was 31.
Bernstein's brother, Gary Bernstein, confirmed the news via Twitter.
“My baby brother Byron @reckful is gone. RIP," Gary wrote. "He left in a similar way as my older brother Guy. I’ve no siblings left. If you have stories and pictures of him, please share them."
Byron proposed to his girlfriend via Twitter hours before his death.
"i know i’ll always be a little too crazy... and this is proof... but at least you’ll never be bored. will you marry me, becca?" he wrote.
Becca reacted via Twitter with the words "RIP July 2, 2020." She included a link to a message indicating she had not seen the proposal "until it was too late."
"he was amazing. he taught me how to have fun, to experience more, and challenged me to try to be more than what i was. he was larger than life, too big for this world." Becca wrote.
Twitch released a statement saying Byron "was a streaming pioneer and helped propel the whole industry forward. The communities he cultivated in the games he played were forever changed by his relentless pursuit of excellence."
