Animal rescue elves surprise families with adopted puppies for Christmas

This year, 12 families got the gift of puppies delivered to their door for Christmas.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WTHR) — A Sarasota, Florida animal rescue group surprised several families for Christmas.

It's the third year Nate's Honor Animal Rescue has made deliveries. So-called elves from the rescue deliver puppies to area families.

Parents adopt the pets before hand after they've passed a full background check. This year, the group delivered 12 puppies to families.

"It was the best Christmas gift ever," Karissa Tovar said. "I still want to cry now. I'm so happy and excited."

Karissa's father, Myke, said he couldn't have asked for anything more after the delivery.

"My kids were asking for a dog for several years now," he said. "Just to see thh expression on my daughter's face and my boy's face. It's everything that a parent could ask for."

The project is rewarding for volunteers, too.

"When you see the kids just absolutely crying, it's the sweetest feeling on earth," one volunteer said. "It just makes you want to cry because it makes you so happy. You see these kids overwhelmed with joy."
