MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WTHR) — An 18-year-old is facing trespassing charges after police found him in a Tennessee family's attic Thursday.
It's not the first time the incident has occurred. Mt. Juliet Police Department said officers arrested Matthew Castro earlier this month for trespass and unlawfully entering the same home.
WSMV reports the 18-year-old had been secretly living in the attic and visiting a 14-year-old girl who lived in the home at night. The girl's mother apparently did not know about it.
The mother said she got home and saw Castro at the top of the stairs. A neighbor had called police when they saw him walking toward the home Thursday.
After the mother saw him, he ran to hide in the attic and would not come out when police showed up. Police had to go up to the attic and use a Taser on him to get him to comply.
Police said they initially got involved in the case weeks ago when Castro and the 14-year-old girl ran away together. Police warned Castro to stay away, but that did not happen.
Castro's mother said her son suffers from mental health issues. She said the 14-year-old frequently called him to help with her own emotional problems. After Thursday's arrest, his mom said he understands not to go back to the home.
Castro is facing new charges for aggravated criminal trespass and resisting arrest.
