Weeks into recovery from horrible abuse, 'Halsey' meets her supporters

Halsey had a broken leg, jaw, ribs and multiple skull fractures.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) - We've been following her recovery for the past month and we're finally getting the chance to meet the puppy saved from a horrible case of abuse.

Every Dog Counts Rescue hosted a meet-and-greet fundraiser with "Halsey" to thank the community for its support.

"We know she's stolen so many people's hearts through their computer screens or through the news, and we wanted to give them a chance to meet her in person and see what an awesome girl she is and see what all their support means," said Tara Harris of EDCR.

She says most of Halsey's fractures are healing well and they removed her muzzle this week.

Police found the now five-month-old puppy in January severely beaten at an east side home.

Halsey had a broken leg, jaw, ribs and multiple skull fractures.

The man accused of leaving her in that condition is facing charges.

"We're thankful that her abuser is being prosecuted. A lot of times these cases are not, so we're grateful that our prosecutor's office takes it seriously and reflects the values of our community that we don't find that acceptable," said Harris.

The nonprofit says despite all she's endured, Halsey loves people and is as sweet as can be.
