INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) — Nolan Birke, 13, wanted to be of support to his friend who was battling cancer.

He decided he wanted to help fundraise for Riley Hospital for Children.

“My friend Jack was in the hospital for cancer. And me and my dad both like animation and I like LEGOs so we wanted to do something with that,” Birke said.

The theme of his animation video came from Riley Dance Marathons.

“High schools and colleges have these dance marathons and we thought it would be cool to do one,” Birke said.

When it comes to LEGOs, Birke is no amateur. Shelves at his home are lined with trucks and ships all built with legos.

His idea for the animation came from school. In one of his classes a teacher had previously given him a stop motion assignment. So making this music video was “easy.”

“We had to take a picture every time we moved a piece. And it took about 15 photos for every second of animation,” Birke said.

So making a 31 second stop animation video while also going to school and playing baseball took him about two months.

But for Birke, taking that time was something he was excited to do. He said he just wanted to give back and make others feel good.
