Sugar Creek Twp FD in Hancock Co. delivering supplies to Gatlinburg today

Off-duty firefighters will be delivering supplies to first responders that have spent days fighting fires in the Smoky Mountains.

NEW PALESTINE (WTHR) - Off-duty firefighters from the Sugar Creek Township Fire Department in Hancock County are leaving today to deliver supplies to first responders in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

In a post on the department's Instagram page, they say they are in search of items like water, eye drops, sports drinks, baby wipes, towels, and snack foods such as protein bars.

The firefighters are leaving this morning, but they will accepting donations until they leave.

You can donate at either Sugar Creek Township firehouse location at 3545 S 600 W. in New Palestine or 3337 W. US 40 in Greenfield.

Firefighters have spent the better part of a week fighting fires that have killed 11 people and burned more than 700 buildings and 18,000 acres.
